Mykonos Island, Cyclades Islands, Greece

Mykonos was the final stop of our honeymoon adventure and while we probably won't be back, we are glad to have experienced the "party island" for ourselves.

While we had a good time, I don't think G or I have ever been to a place where we felt so poor or unattractive (hence why we probably won't be back!). More on that as you read on...

We arrived in Mykonos from Santorini by Ferry around noon and went straight to our hotel (Petasos Beach Resort and Spa). It was a great spot with a pool, easy access to town, and a great view of the ocean.

That night, we took the "public bus" to Mykonos town to try to experience some of the nightlife though after spending $35 on a well gin and tonic, getting treated a little funny by wait staff at a few establishments (were we not dressed well enough? Not spending enough? Not young and hot enough? We couldn't tell you) and feeling a little out of place amongst the young teen partiers , opted to not stay out too late.

Day 2: Sightseeing and Sunset Bar

We spent the first part of the day exploring, checking out the windmills of Mykonos, the shops, enjoying cap freddos, and trying to stay cool in the fairly blistering heat.

We stopped by Negrita Bar on the ocean for some refreshing cocktails (which, like all drinks in Mykonos were extremely expensive - for reference, we probably spent $100 for two drinks and they couldn't get us out of there fast enough).

After heading back to the hotel to clean up and get ready, we began the hike to 180 Sunset Bar (which was our top experience in Mykonos!). We had heard from friends who had visited Mykonos last year that this was a must do experience so we got our reservations in advance to secure out spot. (We got deck seating on the cushions and really enjoyed it).

Sunset bar is located on the top of the hill and was quite the hike (about half an hour of walking up hills, we were panting excessively upon arrival) but it was well worth it! Please note, upon arrival, we did see quite a few people arriving via taxi (which we opted to take down the hill when we left).

The views were STUNNING, it had a super cool vibe, the service was solid, great drinks, solid food, and when the sun went down, a DJ even came out and gave it a lounge-party atmosphere. I also appreciated that we didn't feel rushed which had been a common occurrence nearly ever other place we went so far.

Sunset bar views - worth the walk!

Day 3: Scorpios

For our last full day in Mykonos, G and I opted to follow another recommendation from our friend's who had recently been to Mykonos which was that we HAD to go to Scorpios.

Scorpios is known as the best Mykonos day (and night) club. It's massive with a bohemian feel and includes a beautiful beach, restaurant, day club, and live bands and DJ's with a special "sunset ritual" that is apparently not to be missed.

Making our way to Scorpios

Unfortunately when we went to book Scorpios, there were limited reservation options and no available evening sunset ritual tickets, but I read that if you have lunch there, you can gain access to the beach and sort of "stick around" for the evening activities.

Scorpios

We arrived for our lunch reservation and were dripping sweat from the heat. We immediately ordered some drinks and began looking at the menu for what to order. The menu was astronomically expensive (even for Mykonos standards). We got some lettuce with an avocado, 4 oysters from the oyster man, a small fish crudo, and 4 drinks and our bill was over $250.

Next to us, a table ordered a $20,000 bottle of vodka.

The oyster man

Needless to say, they wanted to turn our table quickly and soon we had paid our ridiculous bill and were on the beach trying to kill several hours of time before the special fire ceremony.

At the beach at Scorpios

After splashing around in the beach for a bit, we realized we didn't want to drop another several hundred dollars for a cabana or another meal at Scorpios so we ended up ditching our plan to try to experience the fire ceremony and heading back to have a more chill last day.

At our hotel pool, all smiles after leaving the infamous Scorpios

In some ways, having Mykonos as our last stop was good because by the end of it, we were ready to come home!

While Santorini was expensive as well, we felt like the speed and what we were getting for what we were spending was worth the value. In Mykonos, not so much. We enjoyed the beautiful sand beaches and crystal clear water and soaking up the last few hours together on a truly epic honeymoon, but the party vibe just wasn't the right fit for us and ultimately we enjoyed Mykonos because we were together (and we could do that for a LOT less money!).

We will absolutely be back to Greece, but will probably skip Mykonos next time unless we win the lottery and suddenly have a bottomless budget.

The next morning, after 20 hours of flying (Mykonos - Athens - New York- Atlanta - to Sac) we were home from a truly epic 2 week honeymoon adventure!
